In Our Own Voice: Living With Mental Illness

Presented by New River Behavioral Healthcare this powerful and informative program by and about people living with mental illness, consists of a 14-minute video and live presentations by individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness who are trained to facilitate these discussions. Affirming and interactive, "In Our Own Voice" is organized around five major areas: Dark Days, Acceptance, Treatment, Coping Strategies, and Successes, Hopes and Dreams. Anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of mental illness is encouraged to attend.

Julia has written children's books about Ms Addie Clawson, Deep Gap mail carrier for 30 years, and also about Orville
Hicks. She will tell stories from these books and other books she has written about Appalachian life.

Betty Wells - Appalachian Culture presentation for students
Bethel School
Betty does a hands-on program exploring what is was like to live in Watauga county in the first part of the 20th century. The children will help make butter as a part of her presentation.

A Taste of Africa

The Multicultural Center
You are invited to a dinner of a variety of foods from some African countries. This meal is part of the efforts to raise funds for members of the Uganda Link Team 07 who will travel to Uganda from June 30 to August 2, 2007. Suggested minimum contribution: $3.00 students and $5.00 all others. Additional donations will be welcome. Chef Jacob Matovu is the coordinator.
After the dinner you will be encouraged to proceed to the Panel Discussion on Contemporary African Issues: Perspectives from Appalachian State University Africanists.
